Leota Winters (August 26, 1906 - November 21, 1978) was an American silent film actress.

Early Life and Film Career[]

Leota Wise Winter was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on August 26, 1906. [1] [2] Her parents were Leonard Hubert Winter (1881-1969) and Laura Blanche Wise (1881-1976). After her parents' divorce, her mother marry Reinhold Carl Greve (1881-1961).

Her family moved to California where they were residing in Los Angeles. [3] Leota Winters begins her career as an actress by becoming one of Mack Sennett's bathing beauties. In 1927, she was starred in her first film, The Girl From Everywhere, which starred Carole Lombard (billed as Carol Lombard), her fellow bathing beauty at the time. In 1928, Leota starred in the twelve comedic shorts and was uncredited. In one of her twelve comedic shorts while uncredited, she played Miss Scotland in None But The Brave. [4]

In that year, she received her first credit in The Campus Carmen where she played a college girl. She was starred in Hubby's Weekend Trip and The Campus Vamp.

In 1929, she went on to appear in Uncle Tom and made her final role in Calling Hubby's Bluff.

Personal Life and Death[]

In 1930, Leota Winters retired from her acting career after making two films last year. She marry Harry Crane, originally known as Harry Cohen, on August 13, at New York City. [5] She and Harry had two children named Stanley, born on September 30, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois; [6] and Cari.

After years of living in California,[7] she was moved to Pennsylvania with her two children where her husband worked at an insurance company. [8]

Leota Opie Crane died on November 21, 1978, at Pennsylvania. [9]
