Anita Barnes (March 18, 1908 - June 29, 1984) was an American actress.

Early Life and Film Career[]

Anita Barnes was born in Adamsville, Alabama, on March 18, 1908.[1] [2] She was raised in Birmingham, Alabama. Her parents are Harry Linwood Barnes (1882-1950), a native of Georgia; and Nettie Jackson Barnes née Tatham (1892-1951), a native of Tennessee. [3] They were married on June 29, 1907. [4] She had a younger brother named James Thomas Barnes (1910-1958).[5]

Anita Barnes was moving to California to pursue her career as an actress by becoming one of Mack Sennett's bating beauties.[6] She debuted in her first film, The Gold Nut (1927).

Between 1927 and 1928, she was starring in thirteen films and was uncredited. She was receiving her first credit when starring in The Campus Carmen. She was starring in films such as Hubby's Weekend Trip and The Campus Vamp that same year.

Next year, she appeared on Uncle Tom and Calling Hubby's Bluff. Following the end of her first marriage, she stopped appearing in films. After a few years of inactivity from the Hollywood film industry, she makes a brief appearance in She Wanted a Millionaire and was uncredited. In 1933, she made a final film appearance in Gold Diggers of 1933 before retiring her film career.

Personal Life and Death[]

Anita Barnes was married twice. She married Edward John Klein (1907-1978), an accountant; and had a son with him named Edward John Klein, named after her first husband, on April 28, 1929, in Los Angeles, California. [7] Following the birth of her son, Anita ended her first marriage to Edward John Klein on the grounds of cruelty. [8]

After the end of her first marriage, she met Victor "Vic" Armin Kropff, an air school operator in Los Angeles, while making an appearance in Mines Field. On September 26, 1933, she married him in Las Vegas, Nevada. [9]

After years of living together in San Francisco, California, [10] they were moved to Kansas City, Missouri. [11] After years of residing in Kansas City, she and Vic moved to Dallas, Texas, where they were resided in.

Nita Bar Kropff died on June 29, 1984, in Marion County, Oregon. [12] [13] One weeks later, Vic Kropff died on July 9, 1984, in Columbia County, Oregon.[14]
